ETA: Entry requirements for Canada have changed.

Travelling to Canada?

Entry requirements have changed. Find out if they apply to you.

In addition to your valid passport, you will also need:
  • a valid Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA)*, or;
  • a valid visa including an ETA, or;
  • a valid Permanent Resident Card (PRC)

*It is mandatory for travellers without a valid Canadian passport, Permanent Resident Card or visa to obtain an eTA from the Government of Canada.

This entry requirement is for visa-exempt foreign nationals travelling to Canada by air.

You are a temporary resident or a tourist in Canada? You will also need an ETA.

This document will be required at check-in, along with a valid passport.

Holders of a valid Canadian passport, Canadian Permanent Resident Card (PRC) or Canadian visa including an ETA, as well as U.S. citizens, are ineligible for an eTA and must present their original documents for travel.

How to apply?

Travellers must request an eTA before going to Canada by filling out an application form online, at Canada.ca/eta.

To complete the online form, eTA-eligible applicants must have:
  • a valid passport
  • email address
  • credit card (the eTA costs CA $7)

Most applicants get their eTA approval within minutes. Air Transat strongly recommends that eligible travellers apply for the eTA when booking their flight and check on the status of their application on the Government of Canada’s official website, at Canada.ca/eta
