Santo Domingo, the capital city of the Dominican Republic, is not only the biggest city in the country but is also the largest metropolitan area in all of the Caribbean. Santo Domingo has all the attractions of a happening, cosmopolitan city right alongside some of the most beautiful beaches in the world.

  • Sun, surf and sand

Santo Domingo beaches are the stuff of legend. Providing the setting for the premier Santo Domingo resorts, hotels and cafes, the water is clear and warm and the sand is soft and inviting. Whether you like to snorkel, swim or just sit back, once you get to the beach, you won’t want to leave!

  • An artistic and cultural hub

The home of the Santo Domingo University is also the home of fascinating history, a brilliant and thriving arts scene, musicians and museums. Experience that culture firsthand while exploring historic Santo Domingo churches, people-watching in hip, local cafes or feeling the groove of live music in a Santo Domingo nightclub.

  • Artisanal craftsmanship

Steeped in rich history, Santo Domingo is the oldest European city in the Americas. Officially founded on August 5th, 1498, by Christopher Columbus, many aspects of the old way of doing things are still embraced by locals. Treat yourself to an exquisite piece of Santo Domingo jewellery or become entranced by a master potter’s hands bringing a unique piece of Santo Domingo pottery to life. The people of Santo Domingo are what makes the city hum.

How to discover Santo Domingo with Transat

Good to know

Presence of Sargassum in Mexico and the Caribbean
Depending on the weather conditions, winds and tides may bring large quantities of Sargassum to shore. Since seaweed moves with the ocean currents, quantities may vary by place and day. Transat would like to inform its clients that this natural phenomenon beyond its control affects several parts of Mexico and the Caribbean. Although the presence of this brown seaweed is greater than usual, our hotel partners are making every effort to clean the beaches when necessary.
