Havana Travel Guide

  • The hauntingly beautiful Havana

Havana is a city lost in time, where visitors soak up the culture the minute they get off the plane. It’s hard to imagine a place more charming. Ties to the past are everywhere but the colourful residents have a modern pride that is infectious.

Explore Havana

  • History

In the centre of the old town, La Habana Vieja, travellers experience beauty in decay as the lack of restoration lends a layer of mystery to the buildings of this historic city. Simply walk around streets like Calle Obispo and take it all in. A visit to the well-kept Hotel Nacional shows what once was…if only the walls could talk!
Havana’s historical legacy is so deeply entrenched that one could spend weeks in the city and barely scratch the surface.
Do like Ernest Hemingway and enjoy a mojito at the Bodeguita del Medio or go to the historic bar Floridita for Daiquiris.
Churches, theatres clubs and bars leave travellers with more than enough to do, day and night (and even into the wee hours of the morning!)

  • Art & Dance

Performing arts are very popular in Havana. A visit to the Gran Teatro de La Habana offers travellers the chance to see the national ballet while dinner shows like the epic one at Tropicana are colourful displays honouring the history of Cuba. Visitors wanting to hit the dance floor will find salsa, the favourite style here, and can find opportunities to shake their stuff in many bars and clubs like Casa de la Musica, a guaranteed good time.

  • Cigars

One of Cuba’s most famous exports is, of course, the cigar. For anyone with a burning desire to see how they are made, a trip to Partagas Cigar Factory gives a behind-the-scenes look at the hand-rolled techniques used to make these renowned treasures.

  • Outside Havana

Havana is most definitely the cultural hub of Cuba but the island also offers a vast selection of all-inclusive resorts and hotels in areas like  Varadero  Will open in a separate browser window and  Cayo Coco  Will open in a separate browser window . For travellers wanting to tap into their inner Ernest Hemingway, sportfishing charters are available to help land the big one.
